Madeleine May Kunin (born September 28, 1933) is a Swiss-born American diplomat, author and politician. She served as the 77th Governor of Vermont from 1985 until 1991, as a member of the Democratic Party. She also served as United States Ambassador to Switzerland from 1996 to 1999. Philip Henderson Hoff was born in Turners Fall, Massachusetts on June 29, 1924. He studied law and was elected governor of Vermont November 7, 1962. He was reelected in 1964 and 1966. In 1983 he was elected state senator for Chittenden County, Vermont. He served three terms, from 1983 to 1988. While serving as senator, Hoff was the chairman of the Senate Education Committee.
